Here’s how to block nuisance calls on a Virgin landline telephone

There’s nothing worse than being pestered all day by nuisance callers.

Nowadays, more often than not, the reason the phone rings isn’t because of a family member or friend but a salesperson or even an automated robot.

We understand thousands of people across the UK want to put an end to unwanted calls for good, so here’s how to block nuisance calls on a Virgin landline

How do spam callers get my number?

One of the most worrying aspects of receiving cold calls is wondering how these companies got hold of your information.

Unfortunately, this is due to personal data being collected then passed on and sold from company to company.

When you enter information on the internet, by filling out a form, for example, companies collect this information and then pass it onto third-party sales and marketing companies.

Directory lists are another way to get hold of a person’s information. Please bear this in mind when allowing a company to add you to their directory or completing a form as you are technically permitting someone to collect your personal details.

Always read the small print and uncheck any boxes that permit companies to collect and pass on your information.

All it takes is one entry of your telephone number for this information to then be passed on.

You can report numbers to us and we will do our best to help prevent you from receiving the unwonted calls you are receiving. Simply use our free report tool here. Make sure to add the page to your favourite bookmark and report the numbers that you receive as and when you receive them.

Can I stop cold calls?

Yes. The good news is that you can have peace back on your landline telephone.

The best way to combat cold calls is by investigating the calls that are coming through to you.

You can use Residential Telecommunication’s free service. This involves tracking down nuisance callers and getting to the root of the issue.

If ever you receive a nuisance call, report it to us via our freephone customer service number.

Once we have some information we’ll do our best to track down the callers. We then order them to remove your information from their systems and ask them not to pester you again.

We also go a step further by contacting the huge data companies that often hold your personal information and tell them that they are to remove your information from their systems.

This can help prevent future nuisance calls by ensuring your personal information stops being passed around to the companies that keep calling you.

Of course, it can be difficult to obtain information from cold callers, so we advise enabling caller display on your telephone. Virgin Media customers can subscribe to Caller Display by calling 150 from a Virgin Media phone or mobile, or 0345 454 1111* from any other phone, and select option 4.

Block phone numbers

If you’re receiving a number of nuisance calls each day, then it may be worth using Residential Telecommunication’s Block Service.

This involves us sending out a CPR Shield which is a small device that plugs into your telephone.

The Shield is equipped with a large red button which, if pressed, will stop a number from calling you again.

The Block service can be a very simple way to regain control over your home telephone. This will ensure you have peace back on your landline.
